This is page two of one of the shorter comics that will go into my next book. I already sketched this out a couple of years ago (and posted it on this website), but not at anything near publication quality — it’s the story of the time I hit a water pipe with a HYEX in Iraq and had to go hunt down the local plumber, who turned out to be about 70 years old, deaf, mute, 50% blind and 100% batshit insane. He fixed the pipe in no time.
After a longer than expected hiatus, I’m back with a new comic. This is going to be part of my next book, but it’s really just a digital reworking of the Best Iraqi Ever story that I sketched out a couple of years ago.
The idea behind this book is to roll up all of the shorter Iraq War stories that I did while I was developing my other book, 7 Nissan, which aren’t long enough to be books on their own. It’s sort of deliberately less ambitious, and I’m using it to get all of my war stories out there before I move on to some more complex projects. I’ve also decided to try drawing in black and white for the foreseeable future, mainly because color printing turns a $5 book that might be an impulse buy into a $22 book that won’t, and I need at least one practice book to get the art style down; I don’t want to be worrying about perfecting the artwork as I go during the course of a 300-page novel.
So, I’m going to strive for one a week here and we’ll see how it goes. If you like what you see here, be sure to check out the novel I wrote, for sale on Amazon, Kindle, Barnes & Noble &c.
